For any Moroccan breeder, SOREC, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Horse, is an essential point of contact. Breeding, identification, shows, Tbourida, racing: it is involved at every stage of a horse’s life. El Adiyat Stud works in partnership with it.
Key dates
- 2003: SOREC is founded;
- 2007: horse racing activities are entrusted to it;
- 2011: the equine sector strategy is launched and the activities of the national studs are transferred to it;
- 2012: open days at the national studs and an awareness caravan are launched.
Supporting and improving the breeds
Supporting and improving Morocco’s horse breeds lies at the heart of its mission. Breeding is encouraged in five breeds: the Barb, the Arab-Barb, the Purebred Arabian, the Thoroughbred and the Anglo-Arab. SOREC supports breeders at every stage of their horses’ lives.
To broaden genetic diversity, it regularly imports stallions and frozen semen together with breeders. It also sets the breeding season calendar, from 1 February to 30 June (see our article on the breeding season).
Identifying every horse
Breeding operations and births are recorded in the Faras application, which lists the horses of Morocco and is used to issue each horse’s identification document. All horses are registered in their breed’s stud-book. We explain this system in horse identification in Morocco.
Breeding shows and Tbourida
Around 30 breeding shows are held every year for the Barb, Arab-Barb and Purebred Arabian (see how horses are judged). Together with the FRMSE, SOREC also organises the official Tbourida competitions, from the 24 regional events to the Hassan II Trophy (see our article on Tbourida).

Horse racing
SOREC stages more than 3,000 races a year at its seven racecourses, with six race meetings a week.

A partner for breeders
For a stud like El Adiyat, SOREC is at once a technical reference, a regulatory framework and a partner in promoting our horses. Discover our stud and its partners.
